asexual-not-asexual-detective:
Am I the only one who thinks that hitting a kid and abuse are different things? Like, if I ever had a kid, I wouldn’t spank their ass raw or something like that. But a bop on the mouth or the ear pull or a smack upside the head? Yea. Those are behavior modifiers.
Except they’re not.
The studies done by the trained psychologists in this joke show that little kids don’t associate being hit with the thing they’ve done wrong. Very small children only understand consequences that are directly caused by the thing they did. Steal a biscuit, biscuit tastes good. Then for no reason mummy hit me. Very different to stole a biscuit, now no biscuit after dinner because I stole a biscuit.
And they also show that when a child is old enough to understand why they are being hit that non-physical punishment is equally as effective and less mentally harmful in the long run.
Do you know who benefits the most from hitting as a punishment? The parent. It gives a satisfaction rush. Parents do it because it makes them feel good.
Basically kids have two stages: too young to understand why they are being hit so physical punishment is useless for anything other than teaching a child that bigger stronger people can hit you whenever they like (Which sounds like the same lesson you would learn from abuse)
And the second stage is old enough to be reasoned with so many punishment options are available and you chose physical violence because it makes *you* feel better, which is an abusive action.
The only time a person should ever use violence against another human being, of any age, is to stop that person from being violent themselves.

men will watch the most trash shit ever released but when it comes to a girl squad movie it needs to meet the highest bar to be considered watchable and worthy of their oh so valuable time lol i have to laugh
i was thinking abt that earlier bc my coworker said “so birds of prey doesn’t look very good” and i said “i don’t care if it’s the most trash ass movie ever made, i’m excited and i’m GONNA watch it!” he said “what, just because they’re women” and i said “uh. yeah.”
especially in genres, women are held to a weirdly high standard. there are like eight fucking movies where tom cruise plays himself in ridiculous high-stakes spy settings and no one bitches that they’re unrealistic or stupid or whatever but margot robbie does it once and suddenly it’s all about the integrity of the art.
Men will fully see 11 Fast and Furious movies and 7 spinoffs to “support the boys” or whatever but the second a girl movie comes out theyre all film majors

AUSTRALIA IS BURNING
The disastrous wildfires taking place in Australia are not getting enough attention. People, animals & parts of Australia are dying, and there isnβt a sign that it is going to stop soon. These wildfires are 4 times worse than the amazon fires, and yet are receiving SO much less attention.
The facts:
- There are currently 200 wildfires across Australia (expected to drastically increase).
- So far, almost half a BILLION animals have been killed (including a third of its koala bears).
- Over 20 people have lost their lives, with dozens more missing.
- 5 million hectares have been burned (the Amazon was 900,000).
- Australian Priminister Scott Morrison refuses to accept that this is as a result of a climate crisis.
- The wildfires have reached (and started to melt) glaciers in distant New Zealand.
- Thousands of homes have been burned to the ground, resulting in evacuations.
- The amount of Australia burnt is equivalent to the entire country of Belgium.
How you can help:
Reblog this! Help this post reach a wider audience which will show more people what they can do to help.
Organisations that you can support (instagrams linked):
Celeste Barber has also brilliantly set up a fundraiser in order to support the firefighters, and has amazingly raised $18.8 MILLION Australian dollars so far (this is rapidly increasing). You can support by donating anything you can to HERE
If you canβt donate, please show your support by reblogging this & raising as much awareness as you can. This is a devastating situation which needs as much attention as it can. Thank you!

it can be tempting to live your life like a prequel. to live as if you’re setting up your own story.and once you lose the weight, once you have the money, once you graduate school, once you’re in a real relationship, once, once, once. then finally, you’ll begin to live, and everything you do up until that point is some kind of half-life, some unimportant foreword you can skip. don’t do this. inhabit your life completely. sink fully into the wealth of your existence. the power to manifest is in the fearless owning of who you are, so that you can shape where you’re going.
